Seminars

Before beginning his career as an executive coach, Marty spent 15 years designing and delivering training, and training trainers. These experiences shaped our current approach to skill-training:

Seminars must deliver easy-to-learn, easy-to-use skills that have immediate applications.

In addition, our seminars focus on multi-use "life" skills that executives can also apply in family and non-profit settings.

  1. The Styles Model
  2. Team Skills
  3. Building Trust: A Guide for Leaders and Teams
  4. Encouraging Excellence: Feedback and Coaching Skills
  5. Organizational Savvy
  6. What is the best use of my time? Time/Life Management Workshop
  7. "Derailment" Factors Workshop

The Styles Model (1 day)

The Styles seminar sharpens your understanding about individual differences, as well as how you are perceived by others. Specific skills and strategies are provided to apply this knowledge to:

  • crafting a variety of tailored approaches to influencing and persuading
  • building cohesive teams
  • preventing interpersonal conflict
  • assessing the strengths and weaknesses of yourself and others

Team Skills (1 1/2 days)

There are a variety of approaches to strengthening teams. The Team Skills approach strives to equip each team member with the core skills a team needs to identify and resolve its own challenges.

Modules include:
The Styles Model
Listening Skills
Feedback Skills
Building Trust

Building Trust: A Guide for Leaders and Team (1 day)

When trust breaks down within a team, a predictable downward spiral occurs, which wastes time and energy and diverts from the focus of the team.

"Building Trust" reveals the "Dozen Team Trustbusters" that can lead to distrust. Specific guidelines are offered to create trust and rebuild it if necessary.

Encouraging Excellence: Feedback and Coaching Skills

"Encouraging Excellence" delivers practical skills for giving and receiving feedback that will immediately make you a more effective leader, friend, or parent. It also gives participants insights into their own biases when observing and evaluating others.

Only when we understand how our judgments are affected by individual differences, "biased social accounting," the "halo effect," and power dynamics can we move towards a fair, objective process of helping people reach their potential.

Organizational Savvy

The Organizational Savvy model shows how power, ego, turf, ambition, integrity, self-promotion, hidden agendas, deception, "managing the airwaves," and relationships can impact your career and company.

Using care studies and skill practices, over 30 proven ethical skills and strategies are presented. The objectives are:

  1. to prevent executive derailment or plateauing due to political "blindspots"
  2. to assist you in designing effective approaches to getting big ideas and projects implemented
  3. to equip ethical leaders with the skills of detecting deception, filtering information and figuring out who to trust and who not to trust

What is the Best Use of my Time: Time/Life Management Workshop

The goal of this workshop is to align how you actually spend your time with your core career and personal priorities.

You will learn:

  • how to identify High Payoff activities
  • the 3 Buckets: Nice to do/Need to do/Need to do well
  • Activity traps
  • Perfectionist traps
  • how to say "No"
  • how to set up your "canary in the coal mine" - The Minimums
  • SHIFTS and DRIFTS: a system that highlights the implications of change in your life
Seldman Executive Development Program can customize any of these seminars to the specific needs of your organization. In addition we provide Train the Trainer programs if you prefer in-house delivery of a seminar.

"Derailment" Factors Workshop

This hard hitting workshop helps participants understand the 11 most common factors that cause executives to dreail or plateau. In addition, they will be able to identify their own "achilles heel" and how to protect themselves.

Skills and strategies are taught for over-coming all of the factors, so that executives can become better coaches and developers of people.
